This adorable, Fanggu-style teapot, half-handmade from genuine Yixing Duanni clay, embodies the essence of traditional craftsmanship.
Fanggu means 'Imitation antique'. Fanggu pots are a common type among round Yixing teapot shapes. Having been refined by countless Yixing pot masters over hundreds of years, there are many heritage masterpieces. It is said that the shape of the imitation antique pot is derived from ancient Chinese war drums used on the battlefield. The war drum was an important tool used to boost morale during combat between armies. The phrases 'beating the drums to boost morale' and 'sounding the gong to retreat' refer to the war drum.
Sourced directly from Yixing town by us this year, the clay for this pot comes from the renowned Huanglong Mountain, known for its quality materials. Skillfully crafted by local ceramic artists, this pot is not just a piece of art but a testament to the rich tea culture of the region.
Thus duanni teapots are well-suited to teas which can benefit from the mollification of excess bitterness, roasting, and/or astringency, like (especially young) Sheng Pu'er or heavily-roasted Wuyi Yan Cha.
Its compact size makes it perfect for personal Gongfucha sessions or for sharing with a friend. Despite its short spout, the pot ensures a smooth pour, making your tea experience both elegant and enjoyable. Embrace the ritual of tea with this exquisite pot, a beautiful blend of functionality and aesthetics.
