Chaozhou Vintage Rustic Ceramic Tea Bowls (Hu Cheng)

€29,80

These rustic ceramic bowls (老物件粗陶碗) come from old markets, each one carrying traces of time. Their exact date is no longer recognizable, but that is part of their quiet charm — they feel at once familiar and mysterious.

Made from rough clay and fired with traditional methods, they show the irregularities of age: mineral speckles, glaze crackles, kiln marks, slight unevenness. When used with tea, the cracks gradually darken as the tea soup seeps in, painting its own patterns. Over years, the bowl develops a patina that belongs only to you.

In Chaozhou gongfucha, bowls like these have long been part of the ritual — simple, earthy vessels that make the tea feel more grounded. I like the idea of placing something old alongside something new on the tea table. It creates a conversation between past and present, and that is why we curate these bowls here.

They pair naturally with a Chaozhou zhuni teapot or a Yixing teapot, carrying the same sense of intimacy and imperfection that makes gongfu tea so alive.
