2026 First Flush Hand-Roasted Taiping Houkui

Long leaves, bamboo basket pressing, unmistakable shape — but this year, the aroma is what made us stop.

An especially fragrant batch of Taiping Houkui: intense 兰花香 — orchid — lifts out of the cup immediately, with the airy floral this tea is loved for and a deeper sweetness underneath. In the cup we find orchid, sugar snap pea, fresh bamboo and soft cream. The liquor is bright and gentle; delicate to look at, surprisingly durable across infusions.

First pick from Houkeng Village, Huangshan, 26 April 2026 — early Quntizhong leaves, hand-roasted in the traditional Houkui style. One of the more aromatic greens we tasted this spring.

An iconic green tea with dramatic looks and complex grace. Handpicked from heirloom Quntizhong cultivar in the misty mountains of Xinming County, this Taiping Houkui is crafted using traditional hand-pressing techniques, giving each leaf its iconic flat, orchid-like form.
Expect a fresh, vegetal sweetness with a sticky rice-like texture, accented by floral high notes and soft fruity undertones. The long, slow-roasted leaves yield a smooth and lingering umami, perfect for quiet spring mornings.
